Adrian Adams treated 60 patients — including a five-month-old infant — after being suspended by the health practitioner watchdog following complaints by patients and staff at his Gold Coast clinics.
Gold Coast chiropractor Adrian Adams has been fined $15,000 for treating patients despite having his licence suspended by the health practitioner watchdog. He is currently unable to treat patients and no longer works in his former practices as a health care professional.
Southport Magistrates Court heard Adams continued to treat patients at his clinics for a total of about four months during different periods between December 2021 and February 2024, despite the suspension. She told the court the maximum penalty for this type of offending was $60,000 but asked for Adams to be fined $15,000 and to have a conviction recorded.Defence barrister Matthew Hynes told the court while his client's conduct was "repeated, quite frankly, stupid and never going to work", it occurred during a "tragic" and "desperately difficult period" of his life.
Judge Wilson said she chose not to record a conviction because the public would be protected by Adams's "ongoing legal and ethical obligation to disclose" the action taken by AHPRA.
