San Antonio’s not kidding around — goats target overgrowth at Brackenridge Park
People are drawn to goats grazing at Brackenridge Park on Wednesday. The Brackenridge Park Conservancy and San Antonio Parks and Recreation got together to host 160 goats to eat overgrowth at the park. The goats are brought by Rent-A-Ruminant Texas out of Brownwood, Texas, and provide an eco-weed control. They are continuous grazers and will go through an acre in two to three days.
The goats are contained by portable low-voltage electrified fencing and are guarded by a Great Pyrenees dog at night. A human goat wrangler and a border collie help manage the herd. The city’s Animal Care Services Department reviewed and approved a permit for the project as a humane use of the animals.
