A Hummer EV owner claims his warranty was voided by a GM dealership due to aftermarket modifications performed by SoFlo Customs. The owner, Dustin Broom, alleges that the dealer initially cooperated with him on unrelated issues but later revoked his warranty citing the modifications as the reason.

The owner of a customized GMC Hummer EV claims his local dealer has revoked his entire warranty, citing modifications made by SoFlo Customs. Dustin Broom, who purchased the truck less than a year ago, says he initially sought assistance from the dealer for an issue unrelated to the customizations.

However, after experiencing ongoing problems with the MyMode switch and a persistent service light, he alleges the dealer reversed its position and informed him that his warranty was void due to the modifications. Broom purchased the truck used from SoFlo Customs, and while he states that SoFlo assured him the modifications wouldn't impact the warranty, GM apparently disagrees. According to Broom, GM claims the upgrades, which include larger tires, custom paint, and a modified leather interior, have rendered the entire vehicle's warranty void. Broom expresses his disappointment, stating he will never buy another GM product again and is considering legal action. Adding another layer of complexity, it's unclear whether GM's decision stems from the ownership transfer or the modifications themselves. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act generally prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranties solely due to aftermarket modifications unless they can prove a direct link between the modifications and the problem at hand. Carscoops has reached out to GM, the dealership, and SoFlo Customs for further clarification. GM and SoFlo Customs have not yet responded, but the dealership provided a statement indicating they have no control over warranty decisions and must adhere to instructions from the manufacturer. This situation raises questions about the responsibilities of both manufacturers and dealerships regarding aftermarket modifications and warranty coverage. Should GM be obligated to honor the warranty despite the modifications, or are they within their rights to deny coverage
