Negotiations for a global pandemic treaty are delayed until 2025 with a focus on addressing vaccine equity and preparedness concerns, the global health body announced.

The WHO's 194 member states have been negotiating for two years on an agreement that could increase collaboration before and during pandemics after the acknowledged failures during Covid-19. Countries did, however, reach a parallel deal to update existing legally binding health rules, known as the International Health Regulations , which includes a new category of"pandemic emergency" for the most significant and globally threatening health crises.
