The royal family make the journey to Norfolk each year to celebrate Christmas
Famously, the royal family make the journey to Norfolk each year to celebrate Christmas with the Queen and Prince Philip at their beloved private country home, Sandringham House. While the Queen was unable to spend her final few Christmases at Sandringham due to lockdown restrictions, King Charles is set to honour the royal tradition for his first Christmas as monarch.
Unlike Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace, Sandringham House is one of two private royal homes personally owned by the Queen and now King Charles and has been the private home to generations of British Monarchs since 1862. The estate was purchased as a country home for Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, and his soon-to-be wife, Alexandra of Denmark.
The young queen stated: “I wish you all, young and old, wherever you may be, all the fun and enjoyment and the peace of a very happy Christmas.”
