A Glenview couple is grappling with unimaginable grief after their 20-year-old daughter and her friend were tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash in Urbana, Illinois. Katie Braham, a junior at Ohio University, was visiting friends at the University of Illinois last weekend when the car she and her friends were traveling in was rear-ended with full force at a stoplight. The driver, allegedly an undocumented Guatemalan man, fled the scene on foot.
Katie died instantly, while her friend, 21-year-old Chloe Polzin of Deerfield, passed away the following day. \U.S. Marshals apprehended the suspect, Julio Cucul Bol, who was using an alias, just days after the crash. He was found on a bus traveling from Texas towards the Mexican border. Katie's family expressed relief at the suspect's capture, stating that they feared he would attempt to flee the country. They are now seeking justice for Katie and demanding the maximum sentence possible for the individual responsible for their daughter's death and the immense pain inflicted upon their family. They emphasized the need for stricter immigration monitoring and questioned the vetting process of individuals entering the United States. \The family is cooperating with Urbana police and urging the public to come forward with any information about the suspect's whereabouts on the night of the crash. Katie's body has been returned to the Chicago area, and funeral arrangements are currently being finalized.
