The Glasgow band are the first from outside Ireland to win the Senior Miscellaneous title at the renowned competition, held in Wexford earlier this year.
St Roch’s Marching Band from Glasgow have made history as the first overseas band to win at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
Their victory has set a new precedent for international participants, as the 41-strong Glasgow ensemble, from the Irish Minstrels branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, wowed audiences with a performance that is said to be remembered for "years to come".READ MORE: Glasgow primary school bids for Subway carriage in the hope of installing it in playground
Members of the band are no strangers to Fleadh competition: with multiple All Ireland champions in their ranks boasting previous wins in fiddle, whistle, piano accordion, piano, drums, duet, grupai cheoil, and many more. The prospect of a challenge into the unknown Marching arena was daunting, yet exciting for these seasoned Fleadh competitors.
This win is particularly significant as it broke the winning streak of Cloich Cheann Fhaola Senior, who had been favoured to claim their sixth Senior All Ireland title. While the previous champions delivered a stellar performance, St Roch’s raised the bar with their outstanding display of musical excellence and precise marching drills.
