It would mean an extra hour of drinking for punters in the city centre
Glasgow City Council have put forward a proposal for bars and pubs in the city centre to stay open until 1am.
The new rules would not affect nightclubs, which are allowed to open until 4am, and would only apply to city centre bars and pubs, reports the Scottish Daily Express.A letter has been sent from the SNP administration to the Licensing Board, which has the power over setting hours and conditions for pubs in the city.
"An additional hour of trading could encourage patrons to remain out for a short period of time, thus further contributing to the late-night economy." However, hospitality industry sources said many Glasgow pubs are not staying open until midnight due to increasing costs and staffing issues.
