He is also accused of attempting to gouge out his eyes.
David Cardwell, 33, allegedly committed the attacks in Glasgow's Kelvinbridge and Calton on January 23 2022.
Court papers state Cardwell, of the city's Cathcart, while acting with another person, assaulted Richard Collins.It is claimed Cardwell repeatedly struck Mr Collins on the head with a saw and struggled with him.Cardwell is sent to have seized hold of Mr Collins' neck and compressed it before attempting to gouge out his eyes.
Cardwell, who represented himself, pleaded not guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assault to Mr Collins' severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
