A paper was brought before the city administration committee on Thursday suggesting that the remaining funds be reallocated and targeted on family support schemes.

A total of £500,000 from Glasgow City Council’s fuel poverty fund is set to be reallocated to help the most vulnerable families over the winter.

Further analysis showed that families at risk or those already experiencing child poverty would also benefit from the funding and the local authority issued a voucher to help those in need while offering advice and assistance to minimise future costs.Referrals reached 2650 in January this year but began to fall in March 2023 with only 117 in May and June combined - meaning £500,000 was left over.

The final £300,000 will be allocated to the Child Poverty Pathfinder which will work directly with GCVS’ to help children, young people and their families. Councillor Turner said: “I would like to know more about the £300,000 and the scoping exercise for that and I just wondered if you had any further detail on the exercise and the sort of activities that might be considered for funding.”
