Former prime minister Tony Abbott has expressed disappointment in the solicitor general’s advice on the Voice to Parliament, saying it has given him “no confidence whatsoever”.

Mr Abbott said the solicitor general did his best to “minimise the dangers” but he certainly can’t rule them out.

“In the end, it’s not the solicitor general who interprets the constitution; it’s the High Court,” Mr Abbott told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “I think this is quite a perilous time for our country, I think that one way or another this referendum will leave our country damaged and divided.” Mr Abbott said the Prime Minister would be better off “pulling” the Voice rather than risking it failing.
