Opposition parties who approached the Public Protector to investigate whether President Cyril Ramaphosa violated the Executive Ethics Code following the Phala Phala farm robbery in 2020 are up in arms over the office's refusal not to share the draft report.
In a letter addressed to African Transformation Movement leader Vuyolwethu Zungula on 20 January, the acting executive manager of the investigations branch in the Office of the Public Protector, Vusumuzi Dlamini, said the draft report needed to go through internal quality assurance processes before being made public.
Speaking to News24, ATM leader Vuyolwethu Zungula and UDM president Bantu Holomisa said unnecessary delays had already plagued the Public Protector's investigation into the matter and the choice not to share the draft report was yet another delaying tactic.
