Chaos continued as the state singles and doubles tournament reached the quarters on Saturday
Published: Oct. 14, 2023, 7:33 p.m.Chris Nalwasky | NJ Advance Media for NJ.comThe No. 1 overall seed at doubles went down on Saturday afternoon in the 2023 NJSIAA state singles and doubles tournaments quarterfinals at the Park Avenue Tennis Center on Oakhurst. The semifinals are set for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. back at the PATC.
“We were really excited to win against such a good team,” Considine said. “We tried to stay positive before and during the match and stay confident in our shots and in ourselves. We just tried to play our game and trust one another.”. We just knew they were a strong team and we had to do our best. This is our second year together as a doubles team, and I think our strengths compliment each other well.”after playing outside for weeks on end, but the Tenafly pair found it easier.
Han and Considine are in their second year together as a duo, and have comfortably won every doubles match this year whether it be in team dual matches, the Bergen County Tournament where they are in the final round, and here in the state doubles tournament as well. Tenafly has never had a doubles finalist, and Considine and Han have a chance be the first Tigers tandem to do so.
The other semifinal at doubles will feature Newark Academy’s 9-14 seeds and second doubles Sarah Wang and Siyona Bordia who edged 5-8 seeds Savannah Porter and Vivian Braceland from Rumson-Fair Haven in a tiebreaker 7-5, 5-7, , and second-seeded Katie Chung and Hannah Lewis of Montclair Kimberley who cruised past Montgomery’s 5-8 seeds Nicolette Shackelford and Riyaa Chandane, 6-0, 6-2.“They’ve been resilient,” Newark Academy coach Lou Scerra said.
Last season, Han and Considine lost to Chan a different partner in a 10-point breaker. Bordia and Wang together beat Montclair Kimberley just a few days ago in the Non-Public, North Jersey state tournament semifinals, though that was at second doubles. Just yesterday, Porter and Braceland also lost in the final round at first doubles to Holmdel at the Monmouth County Tournament in a marathon match that could have somewhat of an affect in terms of stamina.
