The Cougars downed Churchill 62-28 on Wednesday behind Kamryn Griffin’s 15 points.
Clark, in dark uniforms, and Churchill play in a 28-6A basketball showdown at Littleton Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023.With three returning starters and a de facto fourth, Clark is rolling through District 28-6A once again.
“Our shots weren’t falling how they usually fall tonight, but we got to keep shooting and keeping feeding it inside,” junior point guard Natalie Huff said. “That’s all we do — feed inside. And if doesn’t fall, kick it back out.” Griffin isn’t exactly inexperienced. She started as a freshman at Johnson two years ago and played on Clark’s junior varsity last year because of transfer rules.
The other returning starters are Huff and St. Mary’s-bound guard Ramsey Robledo, who earned an all-state tournament team spot last year. On Wednesday, Robledo knocked in a couple of 3-pointers in the first quarter that helped the Cougars shake off their shooting cobwebs. After trailing 4-3, Clark led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars extended it to 34-15 at halftime.Churchill was led by Rakiya Nelson’s six points.
The Cougars also have victories over several state-ranked teams, including Cedar Hill , Harlan , Steele and Fredericksburg .
