Cleveland.com reporter Julie Washington grooms Lexie, a horse that is part of the riding program at Meadowbrook Farm in Chagrin Falls. Lexie is often paired with beginner riders, who learn to safely groom and handle their horses.CLEVELAND, Ohio — A horse named Lexie obediently lifted her rear hoof to allow it to be cleaned. Michelle Dojlidko, owner and manager of Meadowbrook Farm in Chagrin Falls,
Back then, I read every book about young girls and horses in my local library. And although I rode friends’ horses and went on commercial trail rides, I never owned a horse or took riding lessons.I attended barbecue boot camp in Cleveland to prep for grilling season, and you should, too I met other riders, like Crystal Wheland, 22, who boards her horse in Navarre, but comes to Meadowbrook Farm to help out and hang out around horses.
“She’s brought along a lot of riders, from beginners to more advanced riders to just everybody in between,” Dojlidko said. “Lexie knows she can have a little spunk for riders that are more advanced.” The Western style dates back to the 1600s, when ranch hands in what is now the southeastern United States developed a style suited to long hours in the saddle, according to equestrian experts. A Western saddle is larger and heavier, which provides more comfort and stability over rough terrain.
Following Dojlidko’s instructions carefully, I put one foot in the stirrup, flung my other leg over Lexie’s back, and just like that, I was in the saddle looking down on the world.
