Lancashire schoolgirl heartbroken as 'second home' Waddow Hall to be sold off by Girlguiding organisation
Lancashire's Girl Guides have been left "devastated beyond belief" at the announcement their beloved activity centre is to close. Waddow Hall Activity Centre in the Ribble Valley is one of five Girlguiding outdoor and adventure facilities set to be sold by the organisation.
READ MORE: The Ribble Valley town with acclaimed restaurant that's more than just the fell it sits in the shadow of The decision to sell the centres, with Blackland Farm, Foxlease, Glenbrook and Ynysgain also facing closure, will affect thousands of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Leaders, volunteers and Trefoil Guild members. It will also put jobs at risk with many GirlGuiding volunteers also losing their much-loved roles.
She disputes claims that all the centres are losing money and that £20m is needed to "to bring the buildings up to standard", an investment sum they cannot afford. Waddow is in fact running at a profit after "diversifying" by hosting weddings, private functions and group bookings.
"Most importantly, why is the historic underinvestment in the last decade the determining factor? That decision is on the Trustees and their property advisers. Now is time for the Trustees to admit, they have got it wrong. They need to release the minutes from that meeting. Girlguiding released the following statement to LancsLive, in response the the fierce backlash to their decision. A spokesperson said: “Through Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, we support girls to laugh, learn, explore and have adventures. We help all girls know they can do anything, and we're proud to be squarely focused on what drives, challenges and excites girls now and in the future.
