As it turned out, it was a bad day for both Rodarius and his younger brother Greedy, a fourth-year cornerback who wasRodarius Williams was a sixth-round pick by the Giants in the 2021 draft. He was the last pick made by former general manager Dave Gettleman.
In two seasons, Williams played in eight games and made one start with the Giants. He played 147 defensive snaps last season, but the Giants drafted two cornerbacks in April and they both quickly moved far ahead of Williams on the depth chart. In fact, first-round pick Deonte Banks and sixth-round selection Tre Hawkins III have moved into starting roles during their first training camp.
Veteran free agent Amani Oruwariye, a free-agent addition, also had moved in front of Williams on the depth chart at outside cornerback. With Williams’ departure, the only players left on the roster from Gettleman’s final draft are outside linebacker Azeez Ojulari, cornerback Aaron Robinson and running back Gary Brightwell. Robinson and Brightwell are both currently sidelined with injuries and in jeopardy of not making the 53-man roster.
Of course, first-round pick Kadarius Toney was traded last season for a third-round pick that general manager Joe Schoen used to trade for tight end Darren Waller this offseaason. Outside linebacker Elerson Smith, a fourth-round pick in 2021, was waived/injured before the start of training camp.
