The San Francisco Giants superstar broke his silence on some pointed criticism from the Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer.
The San Francisco Giants have embraced superstar slugger Rafael Devers since landing him in a surprising trade, but some of those associated with his former team voiced hard feelings after the move.Immediately following the trade, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow suggested that Devers lacked a 'willingness to step up and sacrifice at a time of need to help this team win.
' And franchise legend David Ortiz was much more critical after the departure, posting to Instagram that 'Devers disrespected himself' after reporting to the team 'out of shape.'But Devers hasn't let those comments detract from his arrival with the Giants. When asked about Ortiz's criticism, he offered a positive three-word response.'I respect him,' Devers told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.'I have nothing to say about him,' Devers added, per Slusser. 'I love him. He's one that likes to express his opinions, and I respect that, but I have nothing to say.'Devers might have taken a lesson from his final weeks in Boston, which saw him respond publicly to a front office request to change positions by openly criticizing Breslow. Since arriving in San Francisco, though, he has consistently vowed to play where the team wants him and has been remarkably positive when speaking out.'Everything is very positive here, everyone is very happy, it's amazing how happy everyone is,' Devers told Slusser. 'Everyone gets along.
