The Giants' safety is eager to show the Jets they made a mistake when they cut him last summer.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh talks to Jason Pinnock during a 2021 game at MetLife Stadium.the team responsible for sending him home in a fog last summer after delivering the shocking news that he had been cut.safety said after practice Thursday. “But I’m playing in this league and just trying to get better. I’m focused in more on that than anything. But we are playing each other, so there’s a little bit more to it.
It was no joke, but Pinnock didn’t have to wait long or go far to find his next job. The Giants called almost immediately and signed him the day after he was released. In his first full season as a starter, he hasn’t been perfect, but he has been versatile and, at times, dynamic. In Week 5 at Miami, he accounted for the Giants’ only touchdown with a 102-yard interception return. It was the longest return in NFL history for a player’s first interception.
It should be fascinating to see what Pinnock can get going against the Jets. He still has friends on the team, including fellow safety Jordan Whitehead, who was his teammate at Pitt. “We’re from the same city,” Pinnock said. “Even if you didn’t know the history of it, we play in the same stadium, so we’re fighting for this city overall.”
