The New York Giants picked Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal with the 7th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen, making his first draft pick since replacing Dave Gettleman in January, is banking on it.

There were rumblings before the drat that Neal was flagged for medical concerns, but clearly the Giants were comfortable taking him anyway — and it’s easy to see why. Neal has been the consensus top tackle prospect in this draft since the fall, and of the other top prospects at tackle — Ickey Ekwonu and Charles Cross the others — he’s the only one with significant experience at right tackle.

The Giants likely aren’t done addressing the offensive line in the NFL Draft either. Thomas is locked in at left tackle and Schoen signed veteran free agents Mark Glowinski and Jon Feliciano to fill in at two other spots. Left guard is still wide open. Top options include veteran free signees Max Garcia and Jamil Douglas. There’s also third-year guards Shane Lemieux, who missed all but one game last year with a knee injury, and Ben Bredeson, who isn’t a lock to make the team.
