New York Giants defensive lineman Jihad Ward ready to raise hell against Eagles in Philadelphia homecoming

Giants nose tackle Justin Ellis, then in his third season with Oakland, recalled Ward as a quiet newcomer. Injuries accrued as a knee issue limited his rookie season, and he was inactive for 10 games in 2017 with a left foot injury. He broke through against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Christmas night when he sacked quarterback Nick Foles.
The relationship didn’t last long. Waived as a final cut, Ward re-routed to the Colts’ practice squad before being promoted to the active roster soon after. He played nose tackle before an ankle injury put him on injured reserve and once threw a medicine ball so hard that it broke through the weight-room wall. Released a year later, the Ravens picked him up midseason.
“People say it’s dangerous,” Ward says. “Well, let me be the judge of that. If I bust my ass and fall, that’s on me. I’ll take the fall for that.”
