J.The New York Giants and New York Jets will open their 2025 NFL seasons on Sunday with new quarterbacks guiding the offenses. Veteran Russell Wilson, playing for his third team since leaving Seattle, starts for thedebut against the team he played for last season. Both New York teams are hoping to get off to positive starts after seemingly endless years of frustration, especially in the case of the Jets. Both MetLife Stadium residents will have viable prop play targets in NFL Week 1. Classic Wilson used to confound and frustrate defenders with his mobility and creativity. He’s just not that guy anymore, naturally, because of age. One thing Russ has retained, though, is his ability to throw the “moon ball.” He still can deliver one of the prettiest and most accurate deep passes in the game. Those who watched him in his prime may remember a picturesque long ball for a 35-yard TD to win the 2015 NFC Championship Game. In the preseason, Giants fans marveled as Wilson unleashed another glimpse of his deep ball prowess. In an exhibition game against the Jets, he unfurled an 80-yard strike. Big Blue followers never saw such a feat during the Daniel Jones days. No matter the game script, expect Wilson to gun deep and help you cash out on this player prop. He may test the Washington secondary early to loosen up the defense. If the Giants are playing from behind, Wilson will naturally air it out. The Washington secondary has undergone some changes during the offseason and may be more vulnerable in the season opener. Wilson may not hold the starting job all season, and the Giants may not even win. However, he’ll provide enough of a deep passing highlight that will be good for a payout.It won’t be easy for Fields to move the ball in his first game as a Jet. He has only one dependable wide receiver and cannot trust his tight ends yet. Plus, he is facing a formidable Pittsburgh defense with former teammates who know his tendencies. But when Fields pulls down the ball to run, he can be one of the toughest QBs to defend. The Jets may not rack up a lot of points against Pittsburgh, but at some point, Fields should find the end zone. He is an obvious threat to score from anywhere on the field. It won’t surprise anyone if Fields rushes for a TD from outside the red zone, or near the goal line when his pass-catchers are covered and he must run. A short-yardage TD is possible. Last year with the Steelers, Fields rushed for as many TDs as he passed for, with five each. In 2022, when Fields started 15 games, he rushed for nine TDs. He should approach that number this season as a full-time starter, and the push to nine again will begin in Week 1. The new Jets coaching staff is expected to let him operate as he sees fit as a runner.Considering the odds, do not hesitate to wager more than one unit on this prop. Yes, Wilson doesn’t have any dependable complements as a pass-catcher, unless you count running back Breece Hall. If the Jets have to play from behind or test the defense downfield, though, Hall is less likely to contribute enough. The Steelers are well aware that to limit the New York passing game, they must contain Wilson. That’s no revelation, as every Jets opponent will take the same approach this season. Still, Wilson should be busy enough to easily clear this projected prop number, even if the yardage totals are capped. If the Jets are playing from behind at any point, Wilson will easily smash this prop.
