and now they are at least interested in making Callahan’s son part of coach John Harbaugh’s first staff.Tuesday morning that the Giants are going to interview Brian Callahan for the role of quarterbacks coach.
The younger Callahan has his own lengthy NFL resume, including the job of head coach the last two seasons with the Titans. Callahan, 41, spent five seasons as the offensive coordinator with the Bengals, helping Joe Burrow develop into one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Whoever ends up in the role of quarterbacks coach will be looking to do something similar with second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart, who showed promise as both a passer and runner during his 12 starts as a rookie last season. The role of quarterbacks coach would be a step back in Callahan’s career, but it is a job he has held before. He was a quarterbacks coach with the Lions in 2016 and 2017 and with the Raiders in 2018. Matthew Stafford’s 99.3 passer rating under Callahan’s tutelage in 2017 with the Lions was the highest of his career at that time. Callahan’s greatest success came with Burrow at quarterback when he was the offensive coordinator with the Bengals in 2021 and 2022. Cincinnati finished seventh in scoring in each of those seasons and Burrow threw for 78 touchdowns, including nine in the postseason. The Bengals reached the Super Bowl during the 2021 season and the AFC Championship in 2022. Callahan’s first shot at being a head coach did not go well.
