Matt Nagy is the Giants' new offensive coordinator.
Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator — Plan B after Todd Monken headed to Cleveland — let’s take a look at which players will benefit most from his arrival. He spent his rookie year working with a play caller, Mike Kafka, who mentored Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
Now, that will be the case for Dart in 2026 and beyond, as Nagy comes over from the Chiefs. Obviously, Dart is not Mahomes. But like Mahomes, Dart relies on mobility and thriving in improvisational moments. Plus, Dart should benefit from at least some Chiefs/Reid system continuity, even though Nagy won’t do things exactly like Kafka did — since Kafka worked under an offensive-minded coach, Brian Daboll, who had his own schematic style. As with the Dart/Mahomes comparisons — if it’s even reasonable to call them comparisons — no sane person would ever say that Johnson will definitely become Travis Kelce. But from Nagy’s time with Kelce, he knows what elite tight end play looks like. And that counts for something. Johnson flashed potential in 2025, his second season — 528 yards and five touchdowns. But he needs to cut down on drops. He had seven last year and five as a rookie. It’s also worth noting that Johnson’s position coach, Tim Kelly, will return. That ought to help him.To be fair, any incoming coordinator would like Skattebo’s style — just as Skattebo would benefit from any coordinator with an ounce of creative thinking. And we’re not just referring to his relentlessly physical approach, as he plows through defenders — though coaches certainly love that . From a scheme standpoint, Skattebo’s appeal is a lot more about his versatility. Perhaps because of his running ferocity, it’s easy to forget that he also is a pass-catching threat out of the backfield. In eight games as a rookie, he caught 24 of his 32 targets for 207 yards and two touchdowns.Darryl Slater is an NFL reporter — writing about the Giants, Jets, and more — at NJ Advance Media .
