SF Giants’ Luis Gonzalez and Joey Bart hit back-to-back home runs in win over Cubs
SAN FRANCISCO — The pop off Joey Bart’s bat rang loud. But the roar of the crowd was a little louder.
Once Bart’s seventh home run landed 411 feet into the left field stands, broadcast cameras panned to Will Clark, team president Larry Baer and everyone else sitting nearby pointing at him as he grinned. Just hours earlier at his No. 22 jersey retirement ceremony, Giants luminaries praised Clark for bringing a special spark to the team nearly 40 years ago that this team could desperately use.
They channeled Clark a bit on Saturday with an explosive three-run inning. They’d even collected two runs a few innings earlier on back-to-back RBI hits from Austin Slater, who doubled Darin Ruf home from first base, and Yermin Mercedes, who singled Slater home.
