to ESPN. He spent two lackluster seasons as Denver’s head coach from 2017-18. He also plans to interview with the Raiders, Cardinals and Titans. In addition to Joseph, the Giants are expected to soon interview former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski and ex-Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who just exited Washington on Tuesday.
All three men have head coaching experience, which clearly is important to the Giants in this hiring cycle, as they seek their fifth new coach in 11 post-Tom Coughlin seasons. Joseph is an impressive defensive mind, but he has barely won as a head coach. He went 5-11 and 6-10 in two seasons as the Broncos’ big whistle. He is now in his third season back in Denver under Sean Payton. Stefanski is by far the most successful head coach of this trio. The Browns just fired him after they won eight combined games over the past two seasons, following two 11-win playoff seasons over Stefanski’s first four years in Cleveland. As for Kingsbury, he is an offensive-minded coach, like Stefanski. That could be valuable for the Giants, as they prioritize quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development. Kingsbury, who just spent two seasons running Washington’s offense, went 35-40 as Texas Tech’s head coach from 2013-18. Then the Cardinals brought him to the NFL in 2019. He wound up going 5-10-1, 8-8, 11-6 and 4-13 over four seasons in Arizona.
