But when, in the emotional moments after his team’s promising postseason ended, Antetokounmpo declared, “There’s no failure in sports?”Of course there’s failure in sports. If there wasn’t, coaches never would be fired, and players never would be cut, and tickets for seats in the arenas of losing teams never would go unsold. In many ways, the threat of failure is what makes the whole professional sports ecosystem tick.
“There’s good days, bad days,” Antetokounmpo said after his top-seeded Bucks’ title hopes ended with a loss to the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in Game 5 of their first-round series. “Some days you are able to be successful. Some days you’re not. Some days it’s your turn, some days it’s not your turn. And that’s what sports is about. You don’t always win.”
