Therein lies the problem of Jay’s season 4 twist: it’s crucial for the character in some ways.

Sam can lie to Jay about how the ghosts respond to her since he can’t hear them. While it’s often light-hearted and the setup of a joke, a toxic trait between the couple, like lying, is uncharacteristic of their otherwise supportive and healthy dynamic.
Lying About The Spirits Further Proves That Ghosts Needs Its Big Jay Twist Ghosts Season 4 Will Change Things For Jay While it could complicate the show’s premise, Jay needs to see the ghosts of Woodstone B&B to feel a sense of connection to his home, and Sam's deceptive trend proves that. Even if Jay’s ghost vision is temporary, the ghosts could tell Jay that Sam has been deceiving him. Jay could use the intel to confront Sam, causing her to swear off the lies for good.
