The multimedia franchise started with the 1984 classic film starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson as four paranormal investigators in New York City. With a profound effect on popular culture and a dedicated fan following, the film received multiple sequels, including the recent legacy sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021.

Will The Original Cast Return In Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2? Shortly after the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, an untitled sequel was quickly greenlit with much of the new cast returning, including Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and Mckenna Grace as Trevor, Callie, and Phoebe Spengler. However, longtime fans are likely more interested in seeing the original cast come back for some more ghostbusting.

While there has been no official confirmation on other original cast members returning, Hudson seemingly confirmed that Aykroyd and Murray would also be appearing in Afterlife 2. The original Ghostbusters only appeared in Afterlife for one scene, though it was one of the most well-received scenes of the entire movie. With the actors and audiences having a mutual interest in returning, it would only make sense for the four original Ghostbusters cast to return for extended appearances.
