The Gettysburg Community Theater is working to rebuild trust after its founder was charged with child sex crimes.

The Gettysburg Community Theater is working to rebuild trust after its founder - and the borough's former mayor - Chad-Alan Carr resigned and was charged with child sex crimes. Newly elected board members said they found out about the accusations shortly before it was taken to police - adding that they took action as soon as they became aware of concerns.

“We had an emergency board meeting because we found out some inappropriate things had occurred 10 to 15 years ago,” board president Scott Hartwig said. “We decided Chad has to step down until he’s cleared of these charges. He then resigned before we got to demand that from him.” Carr has since been charged with grooming a minor in 2013. During a press conference, Pennsylvania State Police said that multiple other reported victims were interviewed who claimed to have had "inappropriate contact" with Carr, but no other charges have been filed at this time. The theater is continuing its scheduled productions, including “Peter Pan,” which features many child actors. In response, leadership has implemented new safety measures aimed at protecting children and reassuring families. Those steps include prohibiting adults from being alone with a child without explicit parental permission and hosting Q&A’s with parents - where they can come with any concerns to get resolutions. They’re also continuing their practice of requiring background checks for all adult volunteers, which is something they’ve always done. They’re also introducing an “open door visibility policy” - which keeps the theater doors open during rehearsals so that staff and parents can always see taking place in the auditorium during rehearsals.A fire broke out at Eagles Nest Restaurant on Mt.
