Sitting just north of the splash pads at Yanaguana Garden, Civic Park is on its way to partial completion this September. The urban greenspace – going in where a segment of the convention center used to be — is part of a larger plan to remake the area between Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Alamo Street.
“Yanaguana Garden was kind of our laboratory to see what was working and what wasn’t and we found a lot of things out that we plan to incorporate into this park,” she said. “So we found the secret sauce and we’re going to bring it over.”In 2018, the city purchased 133 trees for the Hemisfair project from a nursery in Bigfoot. At the time, the trees were just saplings. Five years later, the trees have some heft as they are planted at the new Civic Park.
