Germany’s ZEW Economic Sentiment Index jumps to 31.7 in March. EUR/USD remains uninspired by the upbeat German and EurozoneZEW surveys. The market forecast a reading of 20.5. However, the Current Situation Index improved from -81.7 to -80.5 in the reported month, beating estimates of -82.0. TheEurozoneZEW Economic Sentiment Index came in at 33.5 in the same period, notably higher than the February reading of 25.0. The data surpassed the market expectations of 25.4.
Relatively high interest rates – or the expectation of higher rates – will usually benefit the Euro and vice versa. The ECB Governing Council makes monetary policy decisions at meetings held eight times a year. Decisions are made by heads of the Eurozone national banks and six permanent members, including the President of the ECB, Christine Lagarde.
