Stürzenberger, 60, was originally sentenced to six months in prison but the sentence was reduced to a fine after he appeared before the Hamburg Regional Court.

The activist, who has long criticized the influence of political Islam, was convicted for comments made at a separate event in Hamburg in 2020. Under German law, those convicted of such crimes can face up to five years in prison
