(AP Photo/John Bazemore)The surgery, which repaired the ulnar collateral ligament in Beck’s right (throwing) elbow, was performed in Los Angeles by famed orthopedist Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Beck is expected to begin a throwing program in the spring.
Georgia (11-2) had a first-round bye in the playoff, and will face Notre Dame (12-1) in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. Sophomore Gunner Stockton, who completed 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards with an interception against Texas in the SEC championship game after Beck left the lineup, is expected to make his first career start against the Fighting Irish. Beck was injured when his right arm bent back awkwardly as he was being sacked on the final play of the first half of the Bulldogs’ 22-19 win over Texas in Atlanta, with Stockton playing the entire second half. After Stockton’s helmet was knocked off after a hard hit during overtime, Beck — who was seen on the bench with ice on his elbow during the fourth quarter — came back in for one play and handed off to Trevor Etienne, who scored the game-ending touchdown on a 4-yard run. Beck, who started every game for Georgia the last two seasons, passed for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns in 13 games in 2024. He was expected to enter the 2025 NFL draft, though he could technically take advantage of the COVID year and return to college next season.
