The murder of a young woman in Georgia has reignited debate over border control, with the suspect identified as a Venezuelan man who entered the U.S. illegally.

This photo, provided by the Clarke County Sheriff's Office, shows Jose Ibarra, 26, on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024. Ibarra was arrested on charges that included murder and kidnapping in the death of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Hope Riley in Athens, Ga.

“Why are we allowing people to come here that are not U.S. citizens and break our laws and then not send them back home? I mean, it's so, it's so frustrating,” Kemp told Fox News.“Joe Biden, Mayorkas, and the Democrats have blood on their hands,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said on social media.said Monday that the Biden administration gets blame for “very loose” conditions at the border.A record 302,000 southwest border crossings were recorded in December.

McKee said Republicans “politicize the hell out of it” anytime an immigrant in the country illegally is accused of committing a crime.but never deported. That immigrant was eventually involved in a fatal crash in North Carolina, prompting Republican lawmaker Sue Myrick to push for immigration changes.while making immigration a key part of his 2016 campaign.

“Yeah, so, the evidence on that for over a dozen years is unequivocally clear that immigrants do not commit more crime than native-born Americans,” he said. “That's true for serious crime, as well.”The FBI relies on crime data from thousands of police agencies across the country in order to publish national statistics, and most agencies don’t flag immigration status during an arrest., as it’s one place where immigration status is recorded when people are arrested.
