A new case of monkeypox has been reported in Georgia.
A case of monkeypox -- a rare infectious disease that is a milder form of smallpox -- has been confirmed in Georgia, health officials said Wednesday, meaning two of the four states bordering Alabama now have confirmed monkeypox cases.
It’s unclear how the affected people were exposed to monkeypox but early data suggest that gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men make up a high number of cases, according to the agency. But anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has monkeypox is at risk.
