A man fatally shot an Atlanta-area grocery store cashier after arguing with her about his face mask, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

June 15, 2021 -- A man fatally shot an Atlanta-area grocery store cashier after arguing with her about hisAfter Victor Lee Tucker Jr., 30, argued with the cashier in the checkout line of the DeKalb County store, he left without making a purchase “but immediately returned inside. Tucker walked directly back to the cashier, pulled out a handgun and shot her,” the bureau said in a news release.

Tucker then exchanged gunfire with a member of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office who was working off-duty at the store, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. Both men were wounded. Tucker was arrested by DeKalb County police as he tried to crawl out of the supermarket’s front door. The cashier was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead. The officer and Tucker were both hospitalized and are listed in stable condition, officials said. A second cashier who was grazed by a bullet was treated at the scene.In another dispute over face masks that turned violent, an Iowa man who allegedly assaulted and spit on a man who asked him to adjust his mask has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, theShane Wayne Michael, 42, was wearing a face mask on Nov.
