A state appeals court has removed Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from the Georgia election interference case against Donald Trump and others, but the indictment remains. The case will now be handled by the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia, which will appoint a new prosecutor. The ruling leaves the future of the prosecution uncertain, as it could face delays and the possibility of appeal.
ATLANTA, GA - MARCH 01: Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis looks on during a hearing in the case of the State of Georgia v. Donald John Trump at the Fulton County Courthouse on March 1, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia . The hearing is to determine whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be removed from the case because of a relationship with Nathan Wade, special prosecutor she hired in the election interference case against former President Donald Trump .
The case against Trump and more than a dozen others had already been largely stalled for months while the Georgia Court of Appeals considered the pretrial appeal. But whether it is ultimately Willis or another prosecutor in charge, it seems unlikely that a prosecution against Trump could continue while he's president for the next four years. But there are 14 other defendants who still face charges.
