Georgetown church leaders and community members rally to demand the removal of a Confederate statue in front of the Williamson County Courthouse.

GEORGETOWN , Texas — The Georgetown Square is a gathering place for many, but to some, the Confederate statue in front of the Williamson County Courthouse faces them with a harsh reality.

On Saturday morning, Georgetown church leaders and community members rallied in front of the courthouse as a sign for their Williamson County elected officials to remove the monument. But this isn’t the first attempt to take it down. “I think the monument is a symbol of pain, and I can’t imagine what it feels like for our Black neighbors to walk around the square with that,” said Traci McGrath, a Georgetown resident.
