Protesters braved a thunderstorm for D.C.'s eighth consecutive day of demonstrations.

came to this line:"Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest."

Seemingly undeterred by weather warnings, protesters got out their ponchos and umbrellas and chanted"Black Lives Matter!" and"No peace! No justice!" Some used their hand-made protest signs as head coverings, as they gathered near a recently erected fence preventing them from moving closer to the White House.in large yellow block letters along a thoroughfare just north of the White House.

The city's mayor, Muriel Bowser, directed city crews to paint the message as a symbol honoring protesters who have turned out in droves to mark Floyd's death and demand change. Bowser also renamed part of the same street near the White House"Black Lives Matter Plaza" on Friday. The area — near historic St. John's Church — is where protesters were forcibly removed on Monday evening just before Trump walked through Lafayette Park to pose in front of the church while holding a Bible.

Tensions between Bowser and the Trump administration have been building all week, as the White House deployed a phalanx of federal officers and out-of-state National Guard units to help police the protests.
