The couple are alleged to have evaded thousands in taxes in their home state of Minnesota.
The ex-police officer accused of George Floyd's murder has been charged with tax evasion - including claims he dodged tax on a BMW and didn't declare thousands earned from security work.
Derek Chauvin and his wife are both charged with six counts of filing false or fraudulent state tax returns from 2014 to 2019. This allegedly means they underreported their joint income by $464,433 - meaning they owe nearly $38,000 .Prosecutors claim Chauvin, 44, earned more than $95,000 over six years working security at a restaurant - but did not report it as income. They also say the couple did not pay proper sales tax on a $100,000 BMW by registering it in Florida, where they have a property, instead of Minnesota where it was bought and the location of their main home.
