George Clooney's Oscar-nominated Good Night, and Good Luck is becoming a prestige TV series with Better Call Saul's Jonathan Glatzer serving as showrunner.

George Clooney’s Good Night, and Good Luck movie is becoming a TV series from AMC. Movie star Clooney made a play for Oscar-season prestige as a writer-director with his 2005 biopic of legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow. And the play worked at treat as the topical black-and-white film went on to garner six Oscar nominations, including a Best Director nod for Clooney and a Best Actor nomination for David Strathairn in the role of Murrow.

Now nearly two decades after Clooney offered his acclaimed cinematic take on the issues of journalistic responsibility and the chilling effect of divisive political rhetoric, Good Night, and Good Luck is set to join the discourse again via a small screen adaptation on AMC and/or AMC+. As reported by Deadline, Better Call Saul and Succession writer Jonathan Glatzer is joining the project to head up the writers’ room and serve as showrunner.

Clooney’s Good Night, and Good Luck of course was made during a time when many were interrogating the role of the media amid the hawkishness and surveillance-madness that descended on America in the wake of 9/11. Clearly the question of how the media can best serve the nation is once again on many people’s minds in 2022, as the populace becomes seemingly more and more divided, with social media now entering the picture as well.

But addition to providing heady thematic explorations that doubtless will inspire plenty of internet conversation, Good Night, and Good Luck should deliver some old-fashioned prestige-TV entertainment. AMC executive Dan McDermott indeed promised the character of Sy Steingartner “fits right in with AMC’s icons,” which seems to promise that he will be a complex character in the manner of Don Draper or Walter White.
