Hollywood superstar George Clooney is making his Broadway debut in an adaptation of his 2005 film 'Good Night, And Good Luck.' He will portray legendary CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow in the play, which explores the courageous stand against Sen. Joseph McCarthy's anti-communist crusade in the 1950s.

George Clooney is stepping onto the Broadway stage for the first time in his career with the production of 'Good Night, And Good Luck.' Based on his critically acclaimed 2005 film of the same name, Clooney will portray the iconic CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow in eight performances a week. Clooney, a global superstar, not only stars in the play but also co-wrote it, drawing upon his personal connection to journalism and the challenges of tackling such a significant project on Broadway .

\'That's a part of it, is you want to hear Murrow, and those words are fun to hear,' Clooney shared. The play tells the story of Murrow and his team at CBS News in the 1950s as they courageously investigated Senator Joseph McCarthy's infamous campaign to purge suspected communists from American society. They exposed the senator's lies and manipulations, risking their careers in the process. \ Cloony sees the play as a powerful testament to the importance of journalism in holding power accountable. 'Journalism is always challenged. Power doesn't like journalism. Never has, and didn't like it when it was Jefferson and Adams, and they don't like it now,' he explained. 'My father has been, was an anchorman for 40 years. And we really believe in the idea of holding truth to power.' He continued, 'It's actually a story about us at our best as Americans, which is holding ourselves accountable, which I think is good.' Clooney's decision to take on Broadway at 63, after four decades, is driven by a desire to challenge himself and embrace the unknown. 'Well, it's scary. But, you know, I haven't done a play in 40 years, so it's one of those things where, and I've never done the Broadway play, so I'm, of course, you know, petrified to do it. But it's not such a bad thing being 63 and doing something that you don't feel both your feet are firmly on the ground. That's not such a bad thing to do,' Clooney admitted. 'Good Night And Good Luck' will begin previews on March 12 at the Winter Garden Theatre
