CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town has confirmed a search and seizure operation took place at its offices in the CBD on Wednesday.The city said it was waiting for further information from authorities, as it wanted to find out the reasons for the police raid.

' EWN Reporter March 16, 2023 The police's André Traut said the operation formed part of an investigation into fraud and corruption.Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said he was taking the matter very seriously, and that he had requested the Provincial Commercial Crimes Unit to brief him on why the operation happened.

"I was not informed about it in advance and I'm still not privy to what it's about, but I have spoken to councillor Booi. I've made it clear that I regard it as very serious, and that my first responsibility is to protect the integrity of my government," said Hill-Lewis. "If any information comes to light which casts a shadow on that integrity, then I will act accordingly and very decisively. For now, what I need to do is gather more information from the SAPS, and I've asked for them to come and brief me.
