The businessman had been the chairman of catalogues and marketing firm IVE Group, which on Monday told investors of his death while on holiday in Europe.
Geoff Selig, the former president of the NSW Liberal Party and executive chairman of IVE Group, has died at 59 while on holiday in Europe.
In a note to investors, the ASX-listed marketing firm said Mr Selig’s death had been “caused by unforeseen complications arising from an accident in Barcelona”. “Geoff played a major role, over 40 years, in establishing IVE as Australia’s leading marketing and communications business, in the process, reshaping the landscape of the Australian printing industry,” IVE’s board said on Monday. Gavin Bell, the former chief executive of Herbert Smith Freehills, will act as the company’s chairman.Mr Selig was the president of the Liberal Party’s NSW branch, its largest and most influential, between 2005 and 2008.
Mr Selig was appointed to the board of IVE, one of the country’s oldest marketing firms, in 2015. IVE provides design and creative direction services and distribution, from letterbox marketing to in-store brand activations and print catalogue production. In the six months to December 31, IVE’s revenues rose to $506 million, while earnings were up 1.3 per cent to $65.8 million. The company expanded into the packaging sector with the acquisition of Melbourne’s JacPak, in October.
More recently, IVE’s contracts with the NSW government have been under review. Labor has pointed to some $18 million in contracts signed by icare – the state’s insurance agency – under the Coalition as some of the worst examples of wasteful spending.
