Alejandro Cota, a Geneva man, is accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend, Christina L. Chavira, and her 13-year-old son, D.C., on December 26, 2024. He was ordered detained until his next court date, scheduled for February 27, 2025.
A Geneva man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and her son was ordered detained until his next court date, prosecutors said. Alejandro Cota appeared in court on January 14 for a pretrial detention hearing. He is charged with four counts of first-degree murder, a Class M felony. Cota was charged on December 27, 2024, in connection with the deaths of his girlfriend, Christina L. Chavira, and her 13-year-old son, D.C., the day before.
According to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, Cota stabbed both victims multiple times, leading to their deaths. Geneva police responded to a domestic violence call around 8 p.m. in the 2700 block of Emma's Way. After no one answered the door, officers forced entry into the home and found the victims, unresponsive and suffering from multiple stab wounds. Chavira was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where she later died. Her son was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center, where he also succumbed to his injuries. Cota surrendered to police and was taken to the Geneva Police Station. The Kane County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy on Chavira's body on December 27, finding the cause of death consistent with multiple stab wounds. Chavira's son's autopsy was conducted in Cook County and showed the same cause of death. 'The court’s decision to detain the defendant pretrial reflects the serious nature of these charges and the need to ensure public safety as we proceed with this case. This case involves a devastating act of violence that took the lives of a mother and her young son, leaving an indelible mark on their loved ones and our community. We are committed to seeking justice for the victims and holding the accused accountable for these horrific crimes,' said Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser. Cota will remain in the Kane County Jail until his next court date, set for 9 a.m. on February 27 at the Kane County Judicial Center
