LOS ANGELES — For a while on Thursday, it looked like Tiger Woods' round was going to get away from him.

He had a noticeable limp early on and appeared a bit uncomfortable walking the course at Riviera Country Club in what was his first . Then a stretch of bogeys early on the back side had Woods appearing on the verge of letting his game slip away completely.Woods made three straight birdies in his final three holes to finish with a 2-under 69 in his opening round at the Genesis Invitational. He's still five shots back after 18 holes, but the rally both reminded fans what he's capable of and put himself in a position to actually make a meaningful run at the place where Woods' career started more than 30 years ago.
Woods' late birdie rally started at the par-3 16th, where he landed his tee shot just about five feet from the cup. That brought Woods back to even par on the day, and stopped what was becoming a tough stretch of golf.
