Gender commission’s huge legal bill questioned | City Press

The Commission for Gender Equality has blown more than R6 million over the past three years in legal fees to pay top lawyers acting against its own officials. Insiders fear this amount could rise to about R10 million this year. | City_Press

She said the commission had hired seasoned legal teams for Botha’s court case and disciplinary hearing.City Press has learnt that, since 2019, there has been a huge jump in the legal fees the commission has paid to defend itself in cases mainly involving its former CEOs. According to insiders, all this happened under the leadership of former chairperson Tamara Mathebula, and there are allegations that some of these cases are being dragged out unnecessarily.
