Geelong will unveil a special themed guernsey for Saturday night’s AFL clash against Essendon. The Cats and Bombers will do battle in the annual Country Game, which pays tribute to the connections both clubs share to regional and rural communities. In highlighting the contribution that regional football clubs make to Australian Rules football, Geelong players will wear the club logo they were recruited from.
Captain Patrick Dangerfield will have the Anglesea logo on his jumper, although he will need to overturn his one-match ban at the tribunal to take his place in the team. Dangerfield was banned for a dangerous tackle on Carlton superstar Sam Walsh in the opening minute on last Friday’s clash. Walsh’s arms were pinned in the tackle, but it was the momentum of the two bodies rather than a driving action from Dangerfield that resulted in Walsh’s head hitting the turf.
