The program is a partnership with Geekdom.An effort that says it’s “the first cybersecurity accelerator in the nation” is looking for its first batch of early-stage firms interested in receiving the capital and coaching they need to grow.
The company is focused on “secondary markets” outside of Silicon Valley, New York and Boston, said Troy Vosseller, its co-founder. San Antonio was his top choice for a cybersecurity accelerator program. “This is our first program in San Antonio, and it’s our only program focused on cybersecurity,” Vosseller said. “Most of our programs are industry agnostic in the communities in which they operate. Increasingly, however, we are working with partners such as Geekdom to have industry-specific programs that really build on an ecosystem and that leads us to cybersecurity here in the San Antonio market.
“About one in five will end up permanently relocating or having a significant residual presence in that market,” he said. “We imagine that some in this cohort will already be here.” Woodin agreed. “It’s going to be shining a spotlight here toward the startups and the ecosystem that will bring VCs and others outside of San Antonio to see what’s happening.”
“But it’s something that everyone needs to worry about,” he said. “And making cybersecurity less of a hoodie-up, hacker type of an environment and making it something that every business needs to be concerned about is where I think a broadening of it is important.”
